  • I came across a client’s Welsh Sec A pony being BEMERed for foot tenderness that’s possibly an early sign of laminitis. As she’s very cresty, this is actually quite likely… The BEMER helps her through it in a couple of days and so is now part of her regular management, even though she’s definitely not the riding horse the device was bought for 😀 I love that she’s happy to stand with her front legs wrapped up, soaking in the good sensations.
  • I often look up during a session with a horse or pony, and find that someone else has joined us. In this case it’s a very veteran driving pony who I’ve worked with before. He left his grazing to come close and tune in. It has always amazed me how connected horses are in their herds, so evident when they participate in the recuperative energy of our sessions.

  • Wonderful news! Equine Healthworks is a finalist in the Tamworth Quality Business Awards 'Animal Services' category for customer service. I am proud to be considered alongside some outstanding regional animal care businesses. It wasn't on my bingo card for 2026, so this is a very welcome surprise!

  • A beautiful end-of-session thank you from Willow. She’s such a sweet girl.
  • The intensity that can come during a BEMER session… this gorgeous paint shifted his weight a lot for five minutes, then stood squarer, and by the end was loading solid and true into all four feet. This was our second bodywork session, and his first time with BEMER at the session’s start. I thought he would be highly responsive and I wasn’t wrong…

  • “An important book most breeders hope to never need, but full of well-presented deep knowledge relevant to anyone breeding or rearing horses.” – Dr S. Schmoelzl (BVSc, PhD), Veterinary Research Scientist, Warmblood breeder 🌟 🐎

Your foal is born underdeveloped and weak, possibly premature or dysmature. After a few days they seem fine. But just imagine that for the one or two differences than other foals that you've noticed, there are others that you haven’t. That may be because they're emerging or 'silent' conditions, that will only become apparent as your foal matures.

Issues at maturity can be the legacy of gestational immaturity. ₊˚ 🌱 ₊˚✧ ゚.

In this eBook, I bring together my PhD research with professional observations on development in older horses. Where it has brought me to is this: the first chapter is written, but how the rest of the story plays out is partly up to us.
🗝🕰📜🎞🖋️

There doesn't have to be a gap in our knowledge, but that's what I'm seeing evidence of as I near my 20th year of working with horses. 🐴

It's not anyone's fault - researching foals into adulthood is hard and, given the number of homes many horses go through, sometimes impossible with these issues. That's why I've written this text to help make sense of your existing knowledge and observations, bringing it all together with suggestions for some simple management approaches.

If you’re breeding foals, can you afford not to know about these things?
• Effect on conformation
• Effect on bone and joint health
• Effect on behaviour
• Effect on learning abilities

''Managing the Miracle Foal'' by Dr Jane Clothier is available now on Amazon, Apple Books and your regular digital book stores. Just search Miracle Foal and you'll find it!

  • Many horses enjoy the sensation of these red Light and NIR (Near InfraRed) boots and pads.

These can be effective in as little as 15 minute per day. Use while feeding or tacking up.

Select from six different settings to suit warming for pre- and post-work, or non-warming for treatment to reduce pain and inflammation. All pulsing or continuous.

Now available in Thehorsesback .com store - I offer the best Australian prices and great service :-)

"These tendon boots really are 5 star. Very high quality. Easy to fit. Jane provides excellent instructions and detail on using red light. Excellent product excellent customer service and support" - 5-star review, Feb 2026.

  • The emergence of lacing… this pony’s coat has been raised for a week, in the distinctive webbed pattern. The few white hairs align with the raised ridges. My money is on reticulated leukotrichia, thankfully the non-painful variety.
  • Lacing patterns - it seems everyone has a favourite theory and some of them are, well, a little left field. The truth is that there are different types of lacing, or Reticulated leukotrichia as it's called, with different causes. Not many of them are the popular viewpoints!

This was fun and super interesting, despite my occasional memory crashes (this could be why I prefer writing!).

We discussed:

- The body as an orchesta of finely tuned, sycnhronised systems

- BEMER mechanisms: improving vasomotion to support microcirculation

- What Vasomotion is compared with Vasodilation (a common benefit in bodywork)

- My observations + case examples (I loved hearing Dr Raquel's observations too :-) )

Find Episode 75 of the Integrated Functional Posture Podcast, or visit Raquel's Integrated Veterinary Therapeutics page to listen. And feel free to contact me with questions about BEMER, or visit my website thehorsesback.

“An important book most breeders hope to never need, but full of well-presented deep knowledge relevant to anyone breeding or rearing horses.” – Dr S. Schmoelzl (BVSc, PhD), Veterinary Research Scientist, Warmblood breeder 🌟 🐎 Your foal is born underdeveloped and weak, possibly premature or dysmature. 🗝🕰📜🎞🖋️ There doesn't have to be a gap in our knowledge, but that's what I'm seeing evidence of as I near my 20th year of working with horses. 🐴 It's not anyone's fault - researching foals into adulthood is hard and, given the number of homes many horses go through, sometimes impossible with these issues. That's why I've written this text to help make sense of your existing knowledge and observations, bringing it all together with suggestions for some simple management approaches. If you’re breeding foals, can you afford not to know about these things? • Effect on conformation • Effect on bone and joint health • Effect on behaviour • Effect on learning abilities ''Managing the Miracle Foal'' by Dr Jane Clothier is available now on Amazon, Apple Books and your regular digital book stores. Many horses enjoy the sensation of these red Light and NIR (Near InfraRed) boots and pads.

The emergence of lacing… this pony’s coat has been raised for a week, in the distinctive webbed pattern. The few white hairs align with the raised ridges. My money is on reticulated leukotrichia, thankfully the non-painful variety.

Lacing patterns - it seems everyone has a favourite theory and some of them are, well, a little left field. The truth is that there are different types of lacing, or Reticulated leukotrichia as it's called, with different causes. Not many of them are the popular viewpoints!
