I’m presenting the following program of clinics in Moonbi, nr Tamworth NSW, in 2023. For more details, visit the Equine Healthworks eventbrite page.
Ex-Racehorse Weekend
This two-day event is an introduction to the most common physical issues carried by ex-racehorses as a result of their early training and time on the track.
This is the type of information you need when choosing a horse for a second athletic career, or the athletic career for your horse.
We’ll be looking at individual conditions and how they link together across the horse’s body. There’s also the connection between the musculoskeletal system and so-called ‘TB’ hoof issues.
When should we be concerned and what can we do to help these courageous yet often sensitive horses be the best they can be – not just today or tomorrow, but for as long as possible across their lifetime?
This fascinating clinic will involve auditing the horses when standing and in motion, with supporting talks from Jane Clothier PhD, and drop-in talks from an equine rehab vet and a hoofcare practioner.
Dusty the (standing) ex-racehorse skeleton will also be present to help, along with his history and videos from late life.
Flexion Clinic
This 1-day clinic will focus on exercises to develop flexibility in your horse, functioning as neurological resets, and heightening proprioception.
The result will be a toolkit that you can use regularly in a way that’s enjoyable for both you and your horse.
Performed regularly, these function as a baseline for where your horse is at, so that if restrictions or limitations creep in, you’ll be onto them straightaway.
Bodywork Hacks Clinic
Can you read the signs of tension or restriction in your horse? The signs are there all the time and can be picked up in your daily interactions, once you know what to look for.
In this clinic, we’ll look at how to better read your horse’s body, both visually and through a series of small, easy but highly influential moves that you can integrate with your daily horse management.
These moves help to prevent the development of restrictions and tension by addressing some key influential points on the body, while giving you the heads up on fresh problems, and contributing to your partnership with your horse.
Pony Spa Day
This day for young horse people is a fun introduction to some therapeutic approaches.
These adventures into pole puzzles, carrot stretches, exercises, and aromatherapy provide an enjoyable way to spend the day, without time to get bored.
This allows tuned-in teens and even some younger kids to learn without knowing they’re learning, providing some foundation experiences in empathetic horse care.
This day is only available as a private event for existing clubs or groups. For more info, please contact me.
